Slice Pizza & Brew 725 29th St S 205-715-9300 BIRMINGHAM

They may have only opened their doors in 2011, but Slice is already a can t-miss destination for locals. The seemingly never- ending number of custom pizza creations is pretty impressive, but throw in the fact that they bake with local ingredients and

feature several local brews on tap, and you ve found your new favorite pizza place. Every time I go, I try a different build-your-own pizza. And every time it s delicious. Maybe that s just my good taste, but I give them a lot of the credit. Ian C.

Steel City Pops 2821 Central Ave, Suite 109 205-969-8770 HOMEWOOD

At Steel City Pops, it's okay to have your dessert first. These all-natural treats, inspired by the traditional recipe for

Mexican paletas, are a fresh twist on popsicles that comes in a variety of flavors like Blood Orange, Sweet Tea, and even Pineapple JalapeƱo. They re the perfect way to beat the summer heat or simply indulge in a guilt-free snack. Grab a pop or two at their flagship location in Homewood, their second location at the Summit, or The Pantry in Crestline Village. I had no idea popsicles could taste this way. It blows my mind. Why didn t I think of this? Seri- ously, it blows my mind (in the good way, not in the brain-freeze way, of course). Charlie T.
